Prof Jacob Tompkins OBE

Jacob is an international water expert. With an academic background in hydrology and hydrogeology he has over 35 years experience in the water sector. He has worked for a wide range of water sector bodies and has a wide network of high-level water contacts in the UK and globally. He works regularly with UK water companies both at practitioner and C-suite level. He has extensive understanding of water policy and regulation. As the founder of a tech accelerator and a PhD mentor, he has detailed knowledge of most aspects of water and wastewater technology. He has a lot of print, broadcast and social media experience and is often called upon to provide expert comment and opinion.

He is founder of one of the new UK water companies and has direct experience of regulation and delivering water and wastewater services. He is co-founder of a water tech accelerator working with innovative start-up and scale-up water technology companies. He has also just jointly set up Thunderstorm a new concept in driving environmental improvement and engagement is sports and entertainment, by working with green NGOs, rights holders and sponsors. In addition, he works with a range of organisations on water issues and most of his current work involves advising on strategy and making connections that help companies build their reputation and create a wider water ecosystem around their services. One of his core skills is to able to produce relatable accessible content from complex data and concepts. He is a visiting Prof at Exeter University, has an OBE for services to water, and has received Rastafarian blessing from the Marley family for his work on water.
