Following many years of private climate interventions, in 2021, Massive Attack commissioned an open resource for the music industry: the Roadmap to Super-Low Carbon Live Music, which was produced by climate scientists and industrial analysts from the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research. Paris 1.5-compatible recommendations in all emissions scopes were brought together under the Act 1.5 model.
Since then, those plans have manifested in a huge outdoor proof-of-concept show – Act 1.5 on the Downs in Bristol – followed by the UN Accelerator City being awarded to Liverpool City for its adoption of Act 1.5 conditions into its live music licensing framework. In addition, three super-low carbon indoor gigs were hosted at M&S Bank Arena Liverpool in November, alongside the Expedition One summit to launch the world’s first Accelerator City, and 12 months of unprecedented experimentation and action.
In this session, we will ask what has changed? What has been learned so far? What is still needed? And where to next?
